The state of Odisha is rich in biodiversity and wildlife. Rissia in Kuldiha region is situated amidst a densely forested hilly range in this state as part of a mega habitat. The forest range is at the tri-junction of Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar district. It consists of Kuldiha, Tenda and Devgiri forest ranges. The Nomadic Eco Camps Rissia offers a true sanctuary stay experience here, in double-bedded tents inside the verdure by Rissia dam. Solar lights and fans are fitted inside the tents. Trekking and Local Sightseeing : The property can arrange for experienced guides. Tourists can take a hike with them in the nearby forest and dam areas to watch the sunrise, or get a lay of the land. They can also experience life in the small hamlets tucked inside the buffer area of the forest.
Wildlife and Bird-Watching : This forest region is famous for Tiger, Leopards, Gaur, Sambar and Elephants. The other wildlife in here consists of Mouse deer, Giant Squirrel, Flying squirrel, Mugger crocodile, Porcupine, Wild Pigs, Leopard Cat, Wolf, Chital, King Cobra, Rock python, Indian Flap-shell turtle, etc. Most commonly found birds are Peafowl, Jungle fowl, Hill Myna, Parakeets, a variety of Eagles, Hornbills, Lapwing, etc. Tourists can wait around the watering hole, watch tower and salt pits to see the wildlife.
Camping and Stargazing : Camping in the comfortable accommodations in the midst of forests is a magical experience. Gazing at the starry sky away from the lights of civilization provides a great photographic opportunity.
Kuldiha Forest : This is a dense forest with sal and teak vegetation. It is the house of several carnivore and herbivore mammals, and it houses the massive herd of elephants. In the watchtowers and salt pits, animal sighting is frequent.
Rissia Dam : A small dam on a forest river, this is a major attraction in this area.
Panchalingeswar Temple : A holy pilgrimage of the Hindus, this place is named after the five Shiva Lingas in the place. Surrounded by forest and falls, the walk to this place is enchanting. From the gate of the temple, there is a great view of the surrounding valley.
Jodachua : This is one of the lesser traveled forest range in Balasore district. The red soiled roads of the jungle lead into thick vegetation which is the habitat of a number of species. Bison, Elephant and squirrels are often seen here.
How to Reach:
Rail : The nearest rail-station is Balasore Jn. From there it is nearly 70 km away which takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach by car.
Air : The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar (Biju Patnaik International Airport), 240km away and takes a car 4 hours to reach the place.
Road : From Kolkata, the property is approximately 290 km away, and it takes around 5 hours via Kharagpur-Balasore-Bhadrak.
Best Time to Visit:
The best time to enjoy the forest in the full glory is in the winter months. But if you want to spot wildlife, late February to early March is a perfect time. In the monsoon, the rivers and waterfalls run with all their might and damage the roads badly. Summers are cooler in the forest and a number of orchids and wildflowers decorate the forest.
