Outdoor Activity:

Boating : To reach the property, boats need to be hired from Gupti or Khola. The journey along the creeks through the dense mangrove vegetation in the estuarine delta is an amazing experience. More than ninety variety of mangroves is found here with their pneumatophores or breathing roots which is needed in the time of high tide, when the water level rises and the forest floats.

Wildlife and Bird-Watching : Bhitarkanika is mostly famous for being one of the largest congregations of the huge saltwater crocodiles who busk in the sun in the muds along the creek. Mudskippers, Leopard Cats, Chital and Sambar Deer, different kinds of Dolphins like Bottle-Nose Dolphin’s, Irrawaddy Dolphin, and Finless Porpoise Dolphin, along with Hawksbill, leatherback and Olive Ridley turtles are often seen here. The place is the birders’ paradise with its high number of migratory and residential birds like Asian Open Bill, Black Ibis, Cormorants, Herons, and Darters etc. which are seen from the months of October to February.

Stargazing : From the pristine beaches, stargazing experience can be great, without any light pollution here.

Nearby Attractions:

Kalibhanjadiha Island : An archipelago of seven islands, this place can be reached from Khola in a boat, to encounter animals’ like spotted deer, Wild pig, and crocodiles.

Gahirmatha : A nice beach and marine wildlife sanctuary, one of the world`s largest known rookery of Olive Ridley sea turtle, this place entrances scientists and nature lovers both.

Batighar : The first lighthouse installed in the eastern coast of India with the natural beauty of the mangrove forests on both sides of the river, seen from the boat.

Hukitola : A less explored island with 160 years old functional Lighthouse, an example of excellent British architectural skill with rainwater harvesting system. The place is also the breeding place of horseshoe crabs and is an Ancient Port of British period.

How to Reach:

Rail : The nearest rail-station is Bhadrak Jn. From there it is nearly 142 km away which takes 4 hours and 50 minutes to reach by car.

Air : The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar (Biju Patnaik International Airport), 160 km away and takes a car 4 hours to reach the place.

Road : From Kolkata, the property is approximately 493 km away and it takes around 10 hours via Kharagpur-Balasore-Bhadrak.

Best Time to Visit:

From March to June, due to high temperature and humidity, animal sighting is limited to the dawn and dusk hours. Winter is the best time to enjoy the beauty of this place with flocks of migratory birds from Central Asia and Europe, along with sun-busking crocodiles and deer on the creek.
