Magical Night View of Kalimpong Valley from a Tranquil Tea Garden Stay – Just 1.5 Hours from Darjeeling

Located at an altitude of 1200m – 1800m, Peshok enjoys pleasant temperatures and stunning nighttime views of the Kalimpong hills. The Eastern Himalayan biodiversity, tea gardens, the roaring Teesta River, and dense forests of fir, rhododendron, and bamboo welcome you to this natural escape. Come to Peshok Eco Homestay to relax and rejuvenate in the lap of nature.

The British government established tea plantations in the Darjeeling hills in the mid-1800s. Peshok, a quiet and scenic village in the Darjeeling district, is home to one of these early tea estates. The British planters brought in Nepali workers, many of whose descendants still live here. Although the Lepchas are the original inhabitants, the Nepali or Gorkha community now forms the majority of the population, along with some Bhutia and Bengali residents.

In modern times, Peshok Tea Estate is on the verge of shutting down due to poor management and labour disputes. The declining tea economy has forced the inhabitants to explore new sources of income.

Political turmoil and mismanagement have taken a toll on Peshok, but nature continues to bless the region.

Accommodation at Peshok Eco Homestay

The homestay is surrounded by tea gardens and offers an excellent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. It overlooks the Kalimpong valley, and at night, when the distant house lights flicker, the valley appears like a canvas scattered with stars. A bonfire and BBQ chicken under the starlit sky, along with the breathtaking view of Kalimpong, make the stay truly special.

There are 3 cottages with 4 beds each, accommodating up to 12 guests. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, airy, well-lit, and extremely cozy. The food is homely and organic. Vegetables are picked fresh from the small farm within the homestay, and the chicken served is usually local ‘desi chicken.’
